Replacing worn mechanical injector nozzles is only part of injector service.
The assembled injector must still meet its specified opening-pressure and spray requirements.
Opening Pressure Depends on the Complete Assembly
A mechanical injector commonly uses a spring-loaded needle system.
A simplified relationship is:
Fuel pressure rises → Force overcomes spring preload → Needle lifts → Injection begins
Replacing the nozzle does not automatically establish the correct spring preload.
New Parts Can Still Produce Unequal Injectors
After nozzle replacement, injectors may differ because of:
- spring condition;
- shim thickness;
- assembly tolerance;
- nozzle characteristics;
- seat condition.
The set may therefore contain new nozzles but inconsistent opening behavior.
Cylinder-to-Cylinder Matching Matters
If one injector opens significantly differently from another, combustion timing and fuel delivery behavior can differ between cylinders.
Possible symptoms may include:

- smoke;
- uneven contribution.
The acceptable range must come from the injector specification.
